To break it loose get a large screw driver and from under the car in front hit the inboard joint hard several times until it over comes the clip ring. Use the groove where the C clip sits. Once all six clips pulled out,plastic shield will almost fall by itself - no efforts needed to detach it. There is a C clip that will fall out when you have done this.
When the oil has drained out turn the drive shaft until you see a small bolt in a recess on the right side of the assembly on the opposite side on the main drive gear. If the axle is bent and you say it is then it would be a good idea to replace the axle seal at this time. After you do this push the center pin back in and put the small bolt back in to hold it in place. Mine makes noise and has made noise for quite some time. I believe this should be something Ford should pay to fix. You will have to remove plastic clips on the sides of that shield. Pull the axle out only far enough to put the center pin back in place.
But the drivers side the shorter axle of the two has a clip inside the diff that you have to take out in order to get the axle out. When the bolt is out you can move the pin that it is holding. Also the bad window regulator that I replace and they managed to have 26 of the driver window regulators in stock. We have put new wheel hub assembly on both front, new brakes and ball joints but this has me stumped. You can use the axle itself to remove the seal. I thought it might be the rear unions. The biggest issue is removing inside connection to the half shaft. Replace brake drum and wheel. There is a fill hole on the front side of the differential. May 13, 2011 I just replaced front turn signal bulb. There are six of them and they are clearly visible. You will need to pull the right front brake caliper assembly loose and place to the side. Be careful not to brake clips.
