I had Autozone scan it and among the 3 or 4 alternates I figured it was a loss of vacuum to the intake manifold. Don't do that without troubleshooting the other stuff first. I will try to fix it but it will surely cost you a lot more because we can't pinpoint the exact cause. The dealer diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. A local Ford dealer has replaced the instrument cluster twice without resolving the problem, indicating that original Ford equipment may be defective. I believe the difficulty lies in the throttle body which Ford refuses to produce a recall on and has had difficulty building replacement parts so many of us are stuck with unsafe vehicles. I have taken this car to Ford in the past, and they have not been able to correct it.
The throttle does serge slightly at highway speed but is barley noticeable compared to a load placed on the engine at idle. Since then I have had it to the dealer to diagnose. Recently check engine came on and had hard time stopping vehicle and stalled. During the diagnosis, front wheels locked up rendering it impossible to move the vehicle and dealership had to drag it out of service bay. Have had several near-misses with hitting other cars or garage doors.
I pulled the intake forward to access the vacuum tubes. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the brakes and wheel sensor needed to be replaced. Anonymous Awsome as everyone else pointed out. I have a 2006 freestyle with 82,000 miles. Replaced throttle body and seems to have stopped stalling and lunging.
Oct 15, 2015 Yes the switch could be bad but the engine ciould also be low on oil or the oil pump could be going bad. It's a bit overwhelming, to be honest, but I'ma figure out, by golly! Have had it to Ford dealership multiple times and nothing has been resolved and the year 2010 is now ending. The vehicle has been to three different service dealers in three different states. The dealer followed what Ford says to do according to the code and can't fix problem. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 67,695.
I believe there is a problem with the throttle body unit, part 5F9Z9E926B. I've owned it for 6 days! This is not real safe. A few things I wanted to add. An american company putting americans at risk for harm. Lunging and stalling in 2010.
They seemed to show some level of concern after seeing the failed parts and offered to tow the vehicle to their service department free of charge. Now after I have backed out of my parking space and put the car into drive, the car lunges forward. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle continued to stall. While at a stop with the brakes applied, the contact noticed that the vehicle had suddenly surged forward without warning.
My wife barely made it to work before the care shut down. No clear reason for the malfunction. Wife had to basically stand on brake to get it to stop. This has caused many dangerous situations on the road where all of the sudden we stall in middle of traffic. Also be sure to have a crevice tool on your shop vac and some means of cleaning the sealing surface, like a sturdy rag or one of those 3M gasket cleaning pads from the auto parts store.
Of course, this just happened after my extended warranty ran out as well. The approximate failure mileage was 224,000. Dealer has replaced oil pressure and temp sensor with no change in issue. The speedometer and tachometer needles suddenly drop to zero and freeze. But, after a while it came back on. Com, and quickly diagnosed the problem: a seized-up pressure control valve. The intake manifold bolts need to be torqued in a certain order - so make sure you search for that drawing. I jumped around a little, and pulled the intake off first, two latches on the filter box and one hose clamp at the throttle body.
